How Do Dentists Whiten Teeth in Lakeview?

Smile On Dental Salon and Sleep Apnea Center Blog

Over time, it is natural for your teeth to darken, as their outer enamel layer is penetrated by minerals. This is a natural aging process, but it is not something that is irreversible, thanks to modern dental technology. Your dietary and lifestyle habits can also play a role in tooth darkening, as red wine, coffee, soda, berries, and cigarettes can stain your teeth.

If you are unhappy with the color of your teeth, tooth whitening services are an option and a service that we perform here at Smile On Dental Salon and Sleep Apnea Center. If you have been asking the question, how do dentists whiten teeth, our professionals have all the answers.

Who Can Receive Teeth Whitening Services

Although anybody can request tooth whitening services, whitening only works on certain teeth. Not all tooth whiteners can correct all types of discoloration. For instance, yellow teeth will likely respond well to bleach treatment, but brown teeth may not respond as well. Whitening also may not work if you have caps, crowns, veneers, or fillings. It also will not be as effective if your tooth discoloration was due to medications or a tooth injury.

How it Works

At Smile On Dental Salon and Sleep Apnea Center in Lakeview and the North Shore, we utilize two different tooth whitening methods: in-office Zoom whitening and at-home whitening.

In-Office Zoom Whitening

Our Zoom in-office whitening service has one of our dentists protect your gums and then use a fairly high-concentration peroxide gel and apply it to your teeth. Before getting this treatment done – which typically takes around an hour– our dentist will recommend that you get a regular cleaning so that the whitening process is as effective as possible.

The treatment itself involves the dentist applying the Zoom peroxide gel along with Zoom light that penetrates your teeth, breaking up the discoloration and stains. Typically, the gel is kept on your teeth for about 15 minutes while the dentists complete the light treatment. After the hour is up, you will be provided with a Zoom touch-up kit to bring home with you.

At-Home Whitening

At-home whitening is an alternative to coming into our offices for the Zoom whitening. It includes an easy-to-use whitening gel and custom-made whitening trays. Before being given the kit, however, you will visit our dentist to have impressions taken of your teeth. These impressions will be sent to a dental lab to have the custom-made whitening trays created.

Average Cost

If you’re wondering how much is teeth whitening at the dentist, the price varies on a number of different factors. That said, we aim to make our treatments affordable for all our patients, and we accept a variety of dental insurance. Contact our office to learn more about specific pricing.
